The mission of the Food Bank for New York City is to end hunger by organizing food, information and support for community survival, empowerment, and dignity. Food Bank For New York City has been working to end food poverty in our five boroughs for 35 years. As the city’s largest hunger-relief organization, we employ a multifaceted approach centered on helping low-income New Yorkers overcome their circumstances and achieve greater independence.
“Few things have more impact than nutrition on a child's ability to survive, learn effectively and escape a life of poverty.”
Poverty often limits the choices a family can make for the dinner table and is linked to many diet-related diseases. Food Bank provides both the education and nutritious options needed by charities and schools that serve our city’s most vulnerable. With 1 out of 6 children in NYC relying on soup kitchens and pantries for dinner, it’s imperative that comprehensive services be provided, ensuring health and wellness from the cradle through college and beyond.
Food Bank for New York City’s Check Out Hunger program aims to align with select food markets in NYC to help and we are proud to provide a platform for the program’s success.
Check-Out Hunger is Food Bank’s largest annual supermarket and grocery store campaign where New Yorkers can Shop and Fight Hunger! Starting October 21st at participating stores throughout the five boroughs, donation coupons are placed at the cash registers where customers can help their fellow New Yorkers by donating a few dollars during checkout. You can also Check-Out Hunger online, thanks to our friends at Thrive Market — shop their website from November 1st through the 30th and you’ll have the chance to donate to Food Bank during checkout.
Food Bank For New York City—an independent, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization—meets the Better Business Bureau’s charity standards and is a proud member of Feeding America.
