Last week of April Food Holiday's

Shrimp Scampi, Oatmeal Raisin Cookies, Pretzels

At Morton Williams, we love holiday’s. Any persuasion, especially of the food kind. Every month throughout the year, American’s love to celebrate something food related. April is no exception. Even with only a week remaining, there are plenty o’ things to celebrate. What’s even more fantastic is that we carry every ingredient needed to prepare every food being celebrated. Some we even have prepared for you already (Blueberry Pie and Oatmeal Raisin Cookies to be exact)!

Here’s a list of the remaining Food Holiday’s in April 2019:

  • April 25 National Zucchini Bread Day

  • April 26 National Pretzel Day

  • April 27 National Prime Rib Day

  • April 28 National Blueberry Pie Day

  • April 29 National Shrimp Scampi Day

  • April 30 National Oatmeal Cookie Day

For those interested in trivia, here are a few fun facts about some of these days of joyous glee:

National Pretzel Day

The first pretzel was created in 610 A.D. by a monk in southern France or northern Italy, we’re not exactly sure but we know it definitely originated in that region.

National Shrimp Scampi Day

The word “scampi” means “shrimp”. Therefore, “shrimp scampi” is “shrimp shrimp” (or “scampi scampi”). Here’s a bonus recipe for a killer Shrimp Scampi from CafeDelights.com

National Oatmeal Raisin Day

Despite the overall popularity of oatmeal raisin cookies, the inclusion of "polarizing" raisins in the recipe has sparked some lighthearted controversy among the general public in the US. While some praise the enhanced flavor and texture provided by the raisins, others believe that raisins do not belong in the cookies, and should be substituted or removed from the recipe. One common criticism is that oatmeal raisin cookies are easily confused for chocolate chip cookies, leading the raisins' tarter flavor to surprise an unsuspecting eater. Raise your hand if you have been duped by a raisin at least once... yup, us too.

So, as you ponder the ways you can add some fun into your life, think of these fine days to celebrate. Surprise your family with your "Cliff Clavin-like" knowledge (he was a character in Cheers, read up here) and serve some fun food. We carry every ingredient you need.

Happy Celebrating!
